Message from the Principal

Nick Evans

In 2019, I returned to my alma mater as Wesley’s 17th Principal. It is both a thrill and an honour to serve this wonderful community, one that remains true to its progressive values and unwavering commitment to developing the whole child.

As a parent who may be considering applying to enrol your child/children at an independent school in Melbourne, you have much choice and a lot to contemplate. I believe wholeheartedly that education has the power to transform lives, hearts and minds. My hope for our students is that they experience the distinction and depth of this great coeducational school in the same way that I did.

I have experienced Wesley from many perspectives. As a student, I benefited from Wesley’s holistic educational approach. Alongside my academic studies, I threw myself into the sporting arena - football, cricket and athletics - as well as performing arts and the orchestra.

As a young teacher at Wesley, I was mentored by outstanding, passionate and dedicated staff.  I can still see the faces of the many students that I taught, who inspired and helped shape me into the educational leader I am today.

As Principal of Wesley, it is my goal that when our students pass through the school gates for the last time, that they go out into the community as kind, capable, compassionate young people who will not simply inhabit the world, but make it better. A Wesley education is for life, and they will be in good company, joining a network of 22,000 alumni across the globe.

At the heart of Wesley’s approach to education is our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals who aspire to achieve their personal best in all areas of learning. Our aim is to develop a love of learning in every child, nurturing their unique qualities, talents and passions through our holistic approach and contemporary, coeducational learning environment.

Our motto, Sapere Aude, ‘Dare to be wise’, challenges us to draw on our individual courage and wisdom to lift ourselves and those around us. The richness, breadth and depth of a Wesley education, coupled with unparalleled opportunities for students to discover themselves and the world around them, is my daily inspiration as Principal of this great school.
