Collegians Football Club

2023 has been a very good year for Collegians, with both the senior men’s and women’s teams making the finals in the Premier Section of the VAFA.

The men’s team finished the home and away season two games clear on top of the ladder and won their semi-final by a nail-biting two points last weekend.  They will face either University Blues or St Kevin's in the Grand Final on Sunday 24 September at Elsternwick Park. Good luck boys!

The women’s seniors finished in fourth place but were unfortunately knocked out by Old Scotch in the first week of finals.  We congratulate them on a sensational season given they were promoted to the Premier Section of VAFA Women’s football for the first time this year.

The men’s reserves team have improved dramatically since last year but narrowly missed playing finals, finishing in sixth position on the ladder. Our women’s reserves team finished in fourth place but were beaten by Coburg Lions in the semi-final.

The Under 19 Division 3 Men’s team snuck into fourth place and finals contention with a mighty win over Beaumaris FC in the last round of the home and away season and trounced them again in the semi-final, winning by 36 points! Our boys will meet Old Ivanhoe Grammarians in the preliminary final on 16 September. Best of luck! Hopefully these young boys will be around the club for long time to come.

Financially, we are in need of new sponsors and members from the broader Wesley community as it now costs in excess of $ 400,000 to run the club with both men and women in the Premier Sections of the VAFA. The club fields six teams; four men’s and two women’s teams. If you are able to support us, please get in touch.

Collegians will always have a very strong Wesley connection and we welcome all Wesley leavers into the club. We do, however, have several non-Wesley players who are just as welcome as our OWs.

Freya Parker, Ellie George, Trish O’Neill (OW2004) and Kayla Dingle are excited to be playing finals for Collegians Women in the VAFA Premier A Division

We have had two female and two male players play state football this year for the VAFA representative sides.  We would also like to congratulate Corey Cassidy (OW2010), Jim Bazzani (OW2014) and Lachie Ferguson (OW2010) on recently playing their 100th games for the club.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in this dynamic football club, please contact President Rodney Nancarrow (OW1982) on 0412 687 430 or Vice President/Secretary Andrew Kenneally (OW1989) on 0499 490 580.

Go Lions!!!
