We play various games throughout the year at MCC Swinburne and MCC Glen Street against other APS schools. We have had varying success with our games.

OWCA Bowls 2024 APS Tournament team

Our last game in this competition on 12 February had to be cancelled at lunchtime due to the high temperature. However, the competition is always enjoyable and our host Terry Connelly for MCC does a wonderful job.

The annual West Brighton match had to be postponed from September 2024 due to inclement weather, so Old Wesley gave Brighton the opportunity to play a match on the 18 February as a catch up.

Unfortunately, Old Wesley had to hand back the trophy to the West Brighton Club as we had two rinks down and a tie in the third match. We look forward to our return match in September 2025 so that we can get the trophy back in its ‘rightful’ hands.

Our last game for this season is the APS tournament at Glen Waverley Bowls Club Inc. The program for the day is two bowls triples of 10 ends. Each school must provide 12 players which means that we have four rinks to compete against other APS schools.

Like other schools, we’re struggling to get 12 players on the day, despite the huge number of past students, so think about playing bowls for Wesley. The luncheon is a good time to catch up on what has been happening in each other’s lives over the past year.

We appreciated the presence of Alessia Francese (OW2016) and Frank Opray (OW1963) representing the OWCA. This year, Old Wesley was the host school for the tournament, so it was great to have the support of the OWCA. At lunchtime the respective standings saw Wesley in first place. However, after lunch we saw that position change dramatically and we ended up in fifth place behind eventual winner, Caulfield Grammar.

If you would like to join us for our future games, please contact me via the OWCA office or mobile 0403 023 288. We are always looking for new blood to boost up the ranks as we are not getting any younger!
