SABS concluded 2023 with a special ‘Music Melodies’ event at the Elsternwick Campus on Friday 24 November.

Over 100 parents, SABS members and guests were welcomed by Head of Campus, Jacinta Janssens and enjoyed a wonderful program of music prepared by Alexandra Cameron, Head of Music at Elsternwick.

This included performances by the Middle School Choir, the Violin Ensemble, Year 8 Trio, solo performances and the McArthur Strings, named after former Wesley College Principal, the late Glen McArthur, who was a great advocate for the music program at the Elsternwick Campus. We were also thrilled to welcome Glen’s wife Jenny and his daughter Catherine Thomas, who is a current teacher at the Elsternwick Campus.

Principal Nick Evans (OW1985) spoke warmly of the student performances and thanked SABS members for their ongoing philanthropic support of the College.

One of our SABS patrons, Susie Rodgers-Wilson (OWCA Honorary Life Member), highlighted the important contribution that the society makes to the College and wished all of our guests a wonderful festive season as they enjoyed morning tea in the courtyard.

We look forward to seeing all of our SABS members and friends in the new year.

'Philanthropy in music education through contributions of resources, funding or expertise is key to supporting and encouraging our music students and enhancing their music education programs. Support from individuals, organisations or established musicians comes in many forms including donations of musical instruments, scholarships for music students and funding music classes and workshops. The goal is to ensure that our young students have access to quality music education and opportunities to develop their musical talents and skills. It’s a way of investing in the next generation of musicians and fostering a deeper appreciation of music.’
