A long-standing symbol of pride in the boys’ program, the baggy purple now celebrates the girls’ dedication, teamwork and development. For the players, receiving the cap was both empowering and emotional.
‘It’s very special to receive a Baggy Purple,’ said Captain Mikayla (Year 12). ‘It’s a reward for all our hard work.’
Vice-Captain and boarder Acacia (Year 12), who joined the boys’ team when she came to Wesley in Year 10, added, ‘I saw how much it meant to the boys. Now we’re building something for future generations of girls to aspire to.’
Wesley’s girls’ cricket has come a long way - from early participants having to join boys’ teams to now proudly fielding over 20 passionate girls competing in two dedicated teams, fuelling the sport’s momentum. The program also boasts three state-level players - Mikayla, Acacia and Eva (Year 9), who is currently in contention for selection in Australia’s U19 T20 World Cup team in 2026.
Girls’ Cricket at Wesley is not just making history; it’s setting the standard for generations to come.
