Acquisitive Art Prize 2024

2024 Acquisitive Art Prize winner, Freya (Year 12), with guest judge Vanessa White

The 2024 Acquisitive Art Prize Exhibition was held in the RVIB Art and Design Precinct at the St Kilda Road Campus in late May, showcasing 116 creations from 90 Year 10-12 students, including our 2023 Year 12 cohort.

The competition celebrates art across various fine art media from sculpture, textiles, installation and photography to drawing, printmaking, digital art and painting.

This year’s guest judge was Vanessa White, a contemporary local artist. Vanessa’s work, primarily in video and painting, explores body movements and gestures to create strong emotional impacts. Using drawing, photography, choreography and performance, she blends the disciplined gestures of dance with the expressive strokes of vibrant painting.

Our congratulations go to this year's winner of the Acquisitive Art Prize, Freya (Year 12), with her entry Passing of Time, which forms part of her VCE Art Creative Practice folio. Vanessa chose Freya’s work due its ‘subtle and delicate approach that incorporated photomontage printed on silk.’

Encouragement awards were awarded to Alice Ricciotti (OW2023, IB Visual Arts) for Photographic Memories and Adelaide (Year 12, IB Visual Arts) for Grounded.

The People’s Choice award was granted to Martina (Year 10) for her photorealist Drawing on paper.

The Packers' Prize, as voted by the College's Art Technicians who hang the artwork, was awarded to Jacob (Year 12) for his analogue photography, Crowd and Untitled.

Special commendations were made to:

  • Zara (Year 12) for Who am I?
  • Sabine (Year 12) for The World Ends Here
  • Chris (Year 12) for his metal etching print, Sisyphus; and
  • Talia Aktepe (OW2023) for Trapped

We thank all of our young artists for participating in the 27th year of the Acquisitive Art Prize and congratulate them for the breadth and depth of their work.
