Cross Country teams secure record-breaking wins!

Huge congratulations to both our girls’ and boys’ Cross Country teams who secured the 2022 APS Sport Premierships. This outstanding achievement consolidates Wesley’s history of success in Cross Country with our girls’ winning streak reaching a remarkable tenth consecutive APS Premiership and our boys achieving their sixth consecutive APS Premiership after an unbeaten season.

Our First Girls Team comprised: Amber Louw (Captain), Khushi Deol, Olivia da Costa-Alves, Louisa Lazar, Sienna Rowe, Caitlin Woods and Lola Gorton.

Our First Boys Team comprised: Logan Janetzki (Captain), Mitch Lambourne, Jhye Hadfield, Bailley Morrell, Wolfgang Cotra Nemisi, Max Luke, Daniel Chiba-Lynch, Magnus Woods, Hamish Donohoe and Reamonn Jansen.

‘It means so much to win the premiership as Cross Country Captain in my final year at school and be able to share it with all my mates,’ said Logan Janetzki, Boys Team Captain. ‘It has been great seeing everyone improve from Year 7 to 12 and watching students in the year levels above me go on to do even bigger and better things.’

Tim O’Shaughnessy, Head Coach of Athletics says, ‘We are all humbled by this season's premierships, and thrilled to add to Wesley’s history of success in Cross Country. Our focus is on team dynamics, creating a positive and enjoyable environment, maintaining the quality of our coaching and instilling a strong work ethic among all involved.’

‘As in previous years, the secret of our success was the depth of talent and experience in our teams, with both Captains participating in Cross Country since Year 7.  The high standards of the individuals involved along with their commitment to the rigorous training program has been truly inspirational and has set the tone for the next generation of runners to come.  If you lay the foundation for success, the results seem to follow,’ said Tim.

‘I’d like to thank our athletes whose efforts through the pandemic have not been thwarted, our coaches for their tireless work and dedication and the parents who have continued to support the Wesley team even on the darkest and coldest of mornings’.

Well done to all our athletes and coaches on another impressive season of Cross Country.
