Meika King becomes first girl to play for Firsts XI cricket

Year 12 student Meika King has made an historic entry into the Wesley College Firsts cricket team.

History was made on the Wesley College, Glen Waverley cricket pitch on Friday 12 March, 2021, when Meika King was presented with her cap and received a formal welcome onto the Wesley College Firsts XI Cricket Team prior to their game against St Kevin's.

Meika received her cap and a very enthusiastic congratulations by former Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming, who also passed along some words of wisdom to the team. Fleming used to play alongside Meika’s father, Nathan King, who played Premier Cricket with South Melbourne in the early 1990s, so knows the family well.

The first girl in Wesley history to play on a Firsts Cricket team and the third girl to play First XI in the APS. Congratulations Meika, you are paving the way and empowering girls in sport!
