Adamson Theatre Company productions receive 12 nominations for prestigious awards
The Music Theatre Guild of Victoria’s (MGTV) Annual Bruce Awards for Excellence recognise excellence in amateur theatre and musical theatre across 70 secondary schools in Victoria. This year, Adamson Theatre Company (the St Kilda Road Campus student theatre) entered three of their productions, Jesus Christ Superstar, School of Rock and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, to great success.
The productions have been nominated for the following awards:
- Junior Production of the Year – Jesus Christ Superstar
- Junior Production of the Year – School of Rock
- Direction of a Junior Production – Marcus Pinnell & Fiona Atkin, Jesus Christ Superstar
- Direction of a Junior Production – Alex Maunder & Ryan Murphy, School of Rock
- Music Direction of a Junior Production – Susie Heggie & Matt Tng – Jesus Christ Superstar
- Music Direction of a Junior Production – Sarah Patterson & Stephen Rabach – School of Rock
- Choreography of a Junior Production – Kristy Pinnell & Montana Slavik – Jesus Christ Superstar
- Choreography of a Junior Production – Montana Slavik and Cynthia Wells – School of Rock
- Design – Dann Barber – Jesus Christ Superstar
- Leading Male in a Junior Production – Julian Machin, Jesus, Jesus Christ Superstar
- Leading Male in a Junior Production – Dashiell Stephenson, Dewey Finn, School of Rock
- Supporting Male in a Junior Production – Eli Powles, Pilate, Jesus Christ Superstar
- Excellence Award – Keelan Roberts, Jesus Christ Superstar
The aforementioned Excellence Award has been given to Keelan Roberts for his role as a featured dancer in Jesus Christ Superstar; these awards are given to performers, ensembles or productions that the judging panel believe to merit more than a nomination.
Commendations were also received for:
- Best Junior Production – 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
- Junior Male in a Leading Role – David Cui as William Barfee, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
- Junior Female in a Leading Role – Anita La Terra as Judas, Jesus Christ Superstar
- Junior Female in a Supporting Role – Celia Davidson as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenniere, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The Musical Theatre Guild of Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the development of non-professional music theatre in Victoria. Winners of the 33rd Annual Bruce Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on 14 December 2019.
