Some 190 Glen Waverley and St Kilda Road students joined 5,000 peers from across Australia to participate in the Generations in Jazz National Jazz Band and Vocal Ensemble Awards in Mt Gambier. The competition brings together some of Australia’s best school music ensembles and accomplished musicians for a weekend of performances, concerts and workshops.
The Wesley students enjoyed competing in their sections as well as watching performances by world-class acts such as Patti Austin, James Morrison and The Cat Empire. St Kilda Road student Benji Kabillo was given the opportunity to perform onstage alongside Australian jazz legend James Morrison.

Generations in Jazz

Throughout the weekend, Wesley’s bands, ensembles and choirs performed to an exceptional standard, with the St Kilda Road Big Band placing third in the Set Work in Division 1 and the Glen Waverley Show Band receiving an honourable mention in the Division 2 Stage Band awards.
Outstanding individual performances from Wesley students did not go unnoticed, with adjudicators selecting Sobi Arulampalam, Sasha Lethbridge and Henry Rawling to perform in the elite ‘Superbands,’ selected from the most outstanding musicians in each division to perform as part of a finale concert on the last night of Generations in Jazz.
Congratulations to all students for their dedication in the lead up to the competition and for the wonderful way in which they represented Wesley College over the whole weekend.
