Talent on display at the 2017 Acquisitive Art Prize
The Wesley College Society for the Arts Acquisitive Art prize had a tremendous response in its 21styear, with 164 entries submitted by Glen Waverley, St Kilda Road and Yiramalay students.
The Acquisitive Art Prize recognises exceptional talent of students, with entries submitted in a wide range of media including painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media.

The works were judged by Trudi Harley, a portrait painter and co-founder of Atelier Art Supplies.
Glen Waverley Year 12 IB student Ryan Flintoff was the recipient of the Acquisitive Art Prize for his work ‘My Father’. When Ryan heard that he was the winner, he said, “I was extremely excited that my work was something people could appreciate.”
Ryan describes his work as, “looking at the importance of role models and influential figures in a boys’ life who shape what sort of man they become. It is also themed around modern day ideals of masculinity enforced upon us by society and the expectations of being a man.”
Society for the Arts Director, Robert Breen spoke highly of the students, “from starting their careers with their art works displayed in the prestigious ‘Kelvinator’ art gallery in the family kitchen, through to this incredible show tonight. The students of Wesley College have certainly come a long way through their hard work and passion and the incredible guidance of their teachers. Congratulations to one and all involved.”
