Unveiling the Menzies sculpture

As part of the College’s 150 year celebrations, Wesley unveiled a life-sized bronze sculpture of alumnus and past Prime Minister Sir Robert Gordon Menzies KT AK CH, as a schoolboy.

Robert Menzies entered Wesley College on a scholarship in 1910. He excelled at school revealing a true passion for literature and language and throughout his life was widely acclaimed for his brilliance as an orator. After school he entered the law before entering politics for what would be a long and distinguished career. Robert Menzies was Australia’s longest serving Prime Minister (1939–1941 and 1949–1966).

Situated in the Adamson Hall Forecourt and adjacent to the Menzies Wing, the sculpture was unveiled by Heather Henderson, daughter of Sir Robert Menzies, and renowned sculptor, Peter Corlett OAM.
