In this, the College’s sesquicentenary year, Wesley continues to provide sporting opportunities for all students. The College celebrated the role and history of the sports program at a special dinner held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 19 April, with close to 400 supporters of Wesley sport at the event. I would encourage anyone who wasn’t at that celebration to visit our College website www.wesleycollege.net and view the three videos which capture our rich sporting history, through a narrative and wonderful images. These videos can be found in the Sport section under Wesley Life.
In 2016, sport training and matches are conducted across our three metropolitan campuses Monday to Saturday. Students are encouraged to maximise their involvement in a range of APS sporting activities and the College relies on the support of all families to help students fulfil their commitment to the team and the sport they have chosen.
On the fields and courts during the summer sport season, all Wesley teams “played their hearts out”. Results were mixed, but effort and application were very good. Highlights at our First team level were the premierships in girls’ softball, diving and tennis. As well, we had a number of teams that were runners up, including an exciting Head of the River boys’ race, girls’ swimming, and boys’ table tennis.

The winter sport season has just begun and we are looking forward to more success on the sporting fields and courts. One area where I would like to see Wesley families leading the way is with spectator behaviour. Our College is committed to providing a safe environment for participation. Aggressive, threatening or other inappropriate behaviour by parents, families, friends and other sporting personnel, while attending a game or event, will not be tolerated.
These behaviours are outlined in the College’s Code of Behaviour and specifically include:
* Using bad language
* Harassing or ridiculing players, coaches, officials or other spectators
* Making racist, religious, sexist or other inappropriate comments to players, coaches, officials or other spectators
* Any threatening behaviour or physical altercations
Please create a positive atmosphere for players, coaches and officials by showing respect for all involved.
