Platinum award win for Intermediate Band

Glen Waverley Intermediate Band

Wesley College Glen Waverley’s Intermediate Band is celebrating after winning a platinum award at the recent Victorian Schools Music Festival, held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Most of the 34 band students have performed in competitions before, either the 2015 Victorian Schools Music Festival or the Royal South Street in Ballarat.

Band member Aisha Aly says, “We knew we had some pretty big shoes to fill from the two years before, so it was pretty nerve wracking getting up on stage and performing. The suspense as we waited for our school’s name to be read out at the end, during the place announcements, was pretty scary, yet exciting. When our name and platinum award was read out, it was a mix of relief, excitement, shock and happiness, all in one.'

The band put in many hours of hard work with all the early mornings of practice and hard work at music camp coming to fruition at the competition.

The two band teachers, Emily Brice and Geoff Smith, Head of Music at Glen Waverley are both very proud of the Intermediate Band’s success. “This achievement means a great deal, as we have never earned the highest award for the junior section before. I think it is a great testament to the hard work and effort put in by all the students and shows that the countless hours spent each rehearsal and at music camp has really paid off. It’s a great achievement and perhaps next year we can enter the students in a higher division, which is an exciting prospect also" Emily says.

We congratulate the band on their win!
