On court success

Year 11 student Elly Hartnett has just returned from the School Sport Australia Championships in Hobart, where she was part of the Victorian team who finished second in the Pizzey Cup, playing a mixture of singles, doubles and mixed doubles games. Elly also finished an impressive ninth in the singles competition, the Tennis Australia Cup, held within the same tournament.

With both of her parents being successful tennis players and coaches themselves, it was only natural that she was playing tennis from around the age of four, although she was nine years old before Elly began playing the game competitively.

Roger Federer is her idol – not only is he a superstar in the tennis world, but she also thinks he is so composed and keeps a very normal, real life, outside tennis.

Elly is working on improving her ranking, with the aim of securing a sporting scholarship in the United States. As well as playing tennis for Wesley, she represents Donvale Tennis Club, and also plays basketball for Park Orchards.

Wesley wishes Elly all the best!
