From Wesley to the University of Colorado

2014 Wesley College graduate, Edward Bourke, has just been signed by the University of Colorado’s Colorado Springs basketball team. The 6 foot 8 inch tall 20-year-old is thrilled with the signing and the new life that awaits him at college in the United States. Ed was always destined to play basketball, being the youngest of five boys who all played for their local family basketball club, beginning in the Under 8s division.

From Wesley to the University of Colorado

Ed was fortunate to have his skills and personality promoted to potential college teams in the United States, including via a basketball resume on YouTube, and he subsequently received a number of college offers – after that it was just a matter of finding the right fit.

Ed regards being coached by Darryl McDonald, his favourite childhood player, at Wesley as a great honour and counts his captaincy of the Wesley College Firsts’ Basketball team throughout his final year at school in 2014 as one of his biggest sporting achievements so far, “…a wonderful opportunity to lead the Wesley boys last year – an experience that I will never forget.”

On his upcoming move, Ed says “I can't wait. I want to get over there now. The boys at Colorado are a great bunch who I get on really well with, we all want to improve and get a consecutive championship. On top of that, I'm really looking forward to college life in the United States and all it has to offer.”

In five years’ time, Edward will be finishing up at the University of Colorado and following on from that, would love to play in Europe.

In the meantime, Wesley College will be watching his career develop with great interest.
