Green light for more walk time

Luca Morton and Ruby Rose McMullin from Wesley College helped celebrate increased Greenlight time at the intersection of High Street and St Kilda Road in May. By working with VicRoads, the City of Port Phillip have doubled the Greenlight time for students to get from the tram stop at High Street to the corner of St Kilda Road and increased crossing time for the parallel crossing of St Kilda Road by 5 seconds.

VicRoads have extended the green walk time at six intersections in Port Phillip. Green walk signals will automatically appear most of the day at a several intersections along St Kilda Road, as well as Fitzroy and Grey Streets and Kings Way/Albert Street. The clever changes suggested by Council give walkers more time to cross without delaying trams or cars and will especially benefit children, parents pushing prams or older walkers who find it challenging to cross wide roads.
