Now and Always

Now and Always

As the school year comes to an end, there is a great sense of joy and celebration everywhere. It is a real pleasure to look back on the achievements of 2015 and I hope that everyone will enjoy both the 2015 Chronicle and December edition of Lion over the holidays. At every phase of the school continuum, I can’t help but marvel at the quality of Wesley students and their openness to the world and its opportunities.

This year our focus for the College theme was Living Memory and next year our College theme is going to be A Great Australian School Celebrating 150 Years. Our sesquicentenary year will provide a great opportunity to reflect on the achievements of all those who came before us to found The Best School of All, and also to look forward to the future and the next 150 years.

In preparation for our sesquicentenary year, recently, the judging of the New Song Competition 2016 was completed by our three Heads of Music, Margaret Arnold, Alexandra Cameron and Geoff Smith. The standard of entries was very high, but they were unanimous in their choice of the winning entries:

Current Student Award Winner
OWCA Prize $300

One Hundred and Fifty Years and Beyond
Jared Gibson, Year 11, St Kilda Road

Alumnus Award Winner
OWCA Prize $300

Dare to be Wise
Words by Stuart Bruce (OW2004) and Music by Russell Welsh

Current Student Highly Commended Award
OWCA Prize $100
The Wesley in Me
Esther de Bell, Year 11, St Kilda Road

On behalf of the College, I extend sincerest congratulations to these winners and we all look forward to hearing the new songs performed in 2016.

Thank you to everyone for your contributions to the College throughout 2015.  It has been a wonderful year and I wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday and best wishes for the Festive Season with family and friends.
