Jumping Long and High

Year 4 student Noah Sewak has qualified for the 2015 Track and Field National Championships and will travel to Canberra this month to compete in the high jump. Noah’s silver medal in high jump and fifth in the triple jump at the State Primary Schools Athletics Championships gives him the opportunity to compete against the best students from across Australia in the 9-10 year age group.

Competing in athletics since he was 5, Noah says, “I watched my older sister doing high jump at state level and thought it looked fun. High jump and triple jump are probably two of my best events and I love doing them.”

At Wesley College this year Noah has competed in APS swimming, cross country and athletics. Outside of school, Noah also plays AFL for the East Burwood Rams and cites Geelong Cats captain, Joel Selwood, as an inspiration, viewing him as a team player and full of courage on the footy field. Noah also finds Nelson Mandela a great inspiration, “because he stood up for what he believed in.”

Noah has an active interest in maths, geography, maps and history at school and during the summer holidays will be kept busy playing cricket for the Blackburn South Cobras.

Deeming his biggest achievement so far as making the national championships, we wish Noah all the best for his event in Canberra.

Results update: The College was delighted to hear that Noah was placed fifth in the high jump in the Under 10s at the National Championships, held in Canberra on 5 December. Well done Noah!
