Wesley College is delighted and proud that two of our Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Music Performance students were selected for the prestigious VCE Season of Excellence 2015, which showcases some of Victoria's most outstanding VCE and students from 2014. Wesley College congratulates these very talented students on their wonderful artistic and musical success.

Serena Yang, a Glen Waverley Year 12, 2014 student, performed a piece titled Jian Chang Moon by Xiao Lin Xu on the gu zheng – a traditional Chinese zither for her VCE Music Performance – Solo assessment last year. Serena received an A+ grade for her final performance, despite having had no experience of Western music theory or music analysis prior to beginning at Wesley in 2013. Serena will perform on the gu zheng at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 1 May as part of Top Acts, an evening concert which presents a selection of performers from across the Top Class concert series in one event.

Top Class

Alma Zygier, a St Kilda Road Year 12, 2015 student, represented the College in the Voice – Contemporary Popular category at a Top Class concert on 26 March at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Alma has been involved in music for many years and recently performed with the Alma Quartet from Germany, in a concert hosted by the Wesley College Society for the Arts, in the Stillwell Recital Salon at the St Kilda Road campus. Her performance of Mack the Knife by Kurt Weill was simply superb.
