Alma Quartet

The superb acoustics of the Stillwell Recital Salon were heard to full effect with a wonderful chamber music concert presented by the Wesley College Society for the Arts recently. Our guests, the Alma String Quartet from Germany were joined by Year 12 student, Alma Zygier, whose hauntingly beautiful voice combined perfectly with the excellent string playing - Alma recently performed at Top Class Music for the VCE Season of Excellence.

It was also a rare treat to hear Wesley College's Head of Marketing and Communications, Dennis Freeman, who is also a highly accomplished professional trombonist, combine with the string quartet to perform some thrilling German music. Beethoven’s String Quartet opus 59 in F major, performed with the right balance of intensity and playfulness, brought a memorable concert to a magical ending. The audience included some of Wesley's very young string players who were mesmerised by the wonderful opportunity to sit so close to the musicians.
