Toys for refugees

At Wesley College we recognise our individual and collective social responsibility towards the environment and ecological sustainability, on a local and global scale. An essential part of a Wesley education is the belief that students should be encouraged to express their view in a mature, positive manner and work to change our world for the better. Each of our campuses has a strong culture of promoting social justice and individual expression.

Student led groups such as Wescare and Social Justice in Action work to raise awareness and money for a variety of environmental and charitable causes – locally, nationally and globally. They also work to improve the immediate environment of the College for students, through environmental initiatives such as tree planting and recycling programs.

In Term 3 the Social Justice in Action group focused their efforts on raising awareness of the plight of children being held in Australian detention facilities. Students conducted a very successful soft toy and book drive.

Thanks to their hard work and the generosity of many Wesley families, over 300 soft toys and scores of story books were donated to the Maribyrnong Immigration Detention Centre.

Congratulations to all students involved. The College looks forward to supporting more student initiatives in Term 4.
