The Wesley College Athletics team has shone at the recent 2014 Associated Public Schools (APS) Combined Athletics Sports Championships, and The Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. For the first time in College history the girls have won three consecutive APS Championships, with a euphoric half point win over Caulfield Grammar School. The boys had a hard act to follow but performed admirably, being placed a creditable 6th.

Under the direction of Head Coach Tim O'Shaughnessy and an experienced coaching panel, expectations were high for both squads, anticipating strong performances throughout.

In what was an outstanding day for Wesley it was a real team effort with 30 individual wins and 5 relay wins and the following students achieving APS records - Sophie O’Sullivan, Nana Owusu-Afriyie, Danielle Shaw, Adam Spencer and Ella Squires.

Wesley’s Head of Sport Peter Hawkins said, “As the team's focus had been that every place earned valuable points for the overall tally, all our athletes could be seen striving for that little bit extra. At the end of the day, this is what made a difference to the final scores”.

Following on from this outstanding performance the students continued their success at the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships with 5 silver medallists, 6 bronze medallists and the following six athletes becoming Victorian champions - Jemima Montag, Nana Owusu-Afriyie, Danielle Shaw, Xavier Smith, Adam Spencer and Ella Squires.

Wesley is delighted that all students involved were able to represent the College, and succeed, at these two meets and also display wonderful sportsmanship in achieving these outstanding results.
