St Kilda Road Year 10 student, Anna Gavardinas, has been selected for the Golf Victoria Under 18 Junior Squad for 2014/2015. This fantastic achievement is a testament to Anna’s hard work and determination, at just 15 she is among the youngest in the squad. At the age of three Anna first became involved in golf. She says her family is very soccer orientated, but her father encouraged her to take up the sport.

Twelve years later Anna is passionate about playing, and you would have to be spending as much time training as she does! A regular week involves up to 35 hours training and playing. This includes practicing after school every day, and further training and tournaments on a weekend.

Anna has many achievements under her sporting belt already. To name a few, she was Runner Up (and the youngest champion) at the Victoria Golf Club Women’s Championship, and won the Under 16 division at the Victorian Girls Junior Open coming third overall.

While she enjoys playing the individual focused sport, Anna has made lots of great friends through her involvement with various squads. Her favourite achievement to date was being in a 36 hole play-off with her best friend, for a place in the 2014 Australian Open.

Her sporting idol is Rickie Fowler, who Anna admires for playing the game with no fear, and taking risky shots. This is the type of golfer that Anna aspires to be.

Wesley College congratulates Anna and wish her all the best during this exciting time.
