High achieving public speaker

St Kilda Road Year 11 student, Jessica Carlisle-Goldblatt, pictured above with Rotary representatives Connie Tzelepis and Paul Isacc, was recently awarded first place in the Rotary District 4 Way Test speech competition. Jessica was nominated by Rotary to compete against students from other secondary schools throughout the district, in a public speaking contest that aims to enhance student’s confidence and self-esteem. Jessica’s final round speech focused on animal rights and touched on global issues such as the destruction of coral reefs.

The four professional adjudicators commended Jessica for her outstanding presentation and Paul Isaac, President of the Wheelers Hill Rotary Club said he is sure that Jessica “will continue to excel in the future”.

Jessica developed an interest in public speaking through her involvement in debating at Wesley. She said, “Debating and public speaking are crucial for students to learn to work together and see issues from different perspectives. Public speaking in particular, is an amazing way for students to learn to better express themselves and discover what interests them.”

Wesley congratulates Jessica on this fantastic achievement and is delighted that she was able to represent the College at this community event.
