Four students had the opportunity to participate in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Melbourne Track Classic
The Wesley College athletics team excelled at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships, held earlier this month in Sydney. Danielle Shaw (100m hurdles), Jemima Montag (5km and 10km walks) and Nana Owusu Afriyie (200m) all won gold medals, and Cillian Jansen (1500m) and Xavier Smith (800m) collected silver medals. In addition, a number of other Wesley athletes achieved great results in other events including hurdles, long jump, sprints, and middle distance events.

In addition, four students also participated in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Melbourne Track Classic on Saturday evening and won the Schools’ Challenge in the 4 x 100m relay. This was a very strong performance in an invitation-only event against some of the best school teams in Victoria. This was on top of a great set of results by many athletes at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships the previous weekend, placing Wesley in the top 3 schools in Australia on medal tally alone.
Wesley congratulates all the students, coaches and supporters involved on a fantastic effort.
Update:
Congratulations to Jemima Montag from St Kilda Road, who finished 12th in the World Junior Walking Championships held in China recently. The Australian team won a Bronze medal.
