Glen Waverley Year 10 student, Michael McGuire, has recently been selected for the School Sport Victoria Triathlon Team. This is a big achievement for Michael, who has always enjoyed swimming and running, but has only been seriously training for triathlons in the past 18 months. He trains with the Endurance Triathlon Club and the Triathlon Victoria Development Program, which involves a lot of travel and hard work.
In an average week Michael swims five times, runs four times and cycles three times, which equates to 25km swimming, 50km running and 200km cycling every week!
Michael has made some great friends and been lucky enough to travel all over Victoria and Australia competing and training. He considers his greatest achievement to be placing second in the 2013 National Youth Triathlon championships.
Michael admires the Brownlee brothers (Alastair and Jonathon) who were the Olympic Medallists (1st and 3rd) in London. Michael’s brother also competes in triathlons and he hopes that one day they too can compete in the Olympics together.
Wesley College congratulates Michael on his achievement.
