Young performer of the year

Wesley College is proud to announce that Hoang Pham, a 2002 graduate, is the winner of the 2013 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year competition. At the recent final, held in the Melbourne Town Hall, Hoang joined with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in a thrilling performance of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1.

Young performer of the year

Not only did Hoang win the Young Performer of the Year award, he was also awarded Best Chamber Music Performance for his performance of the Mendelssohn Piano Trio No 1. Opportunities now abound for this talented musician who, no doubt, will be in demand to perform with other major Australian symphony orchestras and also internationally.

Although Hoang admits he feels “extreme” nervousness before performing, he accepts that it is part of the job and that it has become “easier over the years”. Hoang also acknowledges that it is always a “thrill” to play with a symphony orchestra, especially in his home town.

Wesley congratulates Hoang on this outstanding achievement.
