Swimming champion

Ollie Nash, a St Kilda Road Year 6 student, recently represented Victoria in Adelaide at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships. Ollie raced in 10 individual events and three relays. Ollie performed remarkably well in Adelaide with an outstanding nine medals, which included three bronze, four silver and two gold medals. He was also elected team captain for the 12 and under age group. Ollie also represented Wesley at the Victorian Open Short Course Swimming Championships.

Ollie achieved fantastic results in the 12 year old age group and won a gold medal, six silver medals and two bronze medals! He established a new state record for the 200m butterfly with a time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds.

Earlier in the year, Ollie competed at the School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Championships, winning two gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Ollie smashed the existing SSV records in both events, beating his competitors by a full body length and breaking the Victorian State record for the 50m freestyle, which he had been chasing for some time.

Ollie came to Wesley College in January 2013 and when asked about his success he said, “It was exciting to achieve something great for my school, especially so quickly after starting. I really loved representing Wesley; to get a good result was a bonus!”

Swimming champion

Ollie has been swimming since he was 6 months old, and progressed to squad in Grade 2, when he was 8 years old. He joined the Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club two years ago, and trains six days a week. Ollie’s favourite event is the 200m butterfly, because he finds it the most challenging.

When asked what he enjoys most about swimming, Ollie says, “I enjoy being a part of a team, and I love competing and racing. Swimming has proven to me that hard training can create great results”.

Ollie considers his greatest achievement to be competing for Wesley College, and his performance at the 2012 - 2013 Victorian Age Championships. Ollie says this is because, “I raced really well, broke a state record and was awarded a special trophy”.

We all congratulate Ollie on his outstanding performance.
