High achieving science results.

Students from Wesley College have received outstanding results in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz, run by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. The competition is conducted for students in Years 7 – 12 in a number of countries throughout the world. Wesley College congratulates all the students involved in these competitions on achieving these outstanding results.


The following students from Glen Waverley were awarded High Distinctions: Wei Qiao Chen, Nicholas Ensor, Billy Pan, and Aravinda Rao (Year 12 division), Shaun Cheok, Matthew Johnston, Daisy Lu, Thomas Vaughan, Jia Zheng (Year 11 division); Lachlan Wilson (Year 11 division, but a Year 10 student). Distinctions were awarded to Aimie Lim, Adam Pyke, Matilda Rudd, Nicholas Tangey, Michelle Yeoh (Year 12), and Adam Burnett, Jake Hamilton, Nicole Lim, Evan Niteros, Christopher Tricker-Reissig and Nicholas Zeng (Year 11).

St Kilda Road students received the following - High Distinctions: Nathan Kramer, Natalie Ryan, Jun Hao Wang, Daniel Williams, (Year 11 division); Benjamin Grant and Esten Narun (Year 8 division). Distinctions included Timothy Bliss, Alexander Gerontzos, Andrew Nguyen-Dang (Year 9 division); Will Manuell and Dan Watson (Year 8 division) and Luke Magnusson and Imogen Stephenson (Year 7 division).

Students from Elsternwick campus participated in the Rio Tinto Big Science competition, run by the Australian Science Innovation. High Distinctions were received by Julian Siedle and Cameron Vines (Year 8 division), and Distinctions included: Harpo Barrett, Zac Mistri, John Poliniak (Year 7), Madison Krapivsky, Aimee Spiegel (Year 8 division) and Christina Kalyvas (Year 9 division).

Several students also participated in the Australian Science Olympiad examination, also run by the Australian Science Innovation. Glen Waverley student, Lachlan Wilson, participated in the Chemistry division, in which he received a High Distinction and a Silver medal for his performance. This is an outstanding achievement, considering the chemistry questions were of a university level standard, and Lachlan, a Year 10 student, was competing against Years 11 and 12 students.

St Kilda Road Year 11 student, Isobel Hymer, competed in the Biology division, receiving a High Distinction and a Gold medal. As a result, Isobel has been offered a place at the 2014 Australian Biology Olympiad summer camp. At this camp students will be selected to represent Australia at the International Olympiad. Nathan Kramer and Connor Hayton, also St Kilda Road Year 11 students, both received Distinctions in the Chemistry division.
