The Lions ClubYouth of the Year state final was hosted by The Lions Club of Wangaratta in April. The competition is designed to encourage student interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community. Isobel Hymer, a Year 11 St Kilda Road student, was amongst the finalists, having won the first round in February, and a further district round in March, at which she took out first prize for the Overall section, beating 74 other applicants.
Isobel had to attend a 90 minute interview, deliver a pre-prepared speech on the topic 'Schoolies week has got out of control' and perform two impromptu speeches on topics that were given to her just minutes before her presentation.
Ron Thomas, Chairman of the Young Lion of the Year program, congratulated Isobel and said that he was sure that “the future would be bright” for her.
Thus far, 2013 has been a successful year for Isobel - earlier in the year, she was named one of three Wesley students to be awarded a Kwong Lee Dow YoungScholarship recipient for 2014 at Melbourne University. This is an academic enrichment program that supports high-achievement.
Congratulations to Isobel who is clearly a talented young woman!
