The very young and very musical
Megan, Year 3, entertaining parents, friends and fellow students

On Monday 24 June students in Years 3 and 4 at Glen Waverley showcased their talents in the first Junior School Music Recital for 2013. The evening featured solos from private instrumental tuition students, interspersed with performances from the Year 3 Strings, Junior Strings, Piccolo Canto and the Year 4 String Quintet. The students were buzzing as they entered Cato Hall, and although some admitted to feeling quite nervous, this was not evident in their performances.

Aspiring violinist Niki, Year 3

It was wonderful to hear guitar, clarinet and violin solos among the fabulous piano and ensemble pieces. Whether performing for the first time or the fifteenth, the quality and energy of the soloists was impressive to witness.

Budding clarinettist Eugene, Year 3

The Year 3 Strings kicked the evening off with two bright numbers, Twisted and Ode to Joy. The Junior Strings performed a trio of works with some beautiful tremolo, and the Year 4 String Quintet displayed great skill performing without a conductor. A delightful Israeli folk song and an amusing round about men who went to sleep in their britches, was the fabulous contribution from the Piccolo Canto Choir.

The last performance of the evening was a massed singing item from all students in Years 3 and 4. The final song Feel the Joy was accompanied beautifully by the Year 4 Percussion Ensemble and included a rap section and a number of groovy dance moves. The looks on the faces of students and parents alike at the end of the evening certainly reflected the joy of the music.

All of the students involved worked hard on their items and should be very proud of the results. Congratulations also to our Junior School Music Leaders, who confidently and articulately compered the event whilst still managing to perform in a large number of items.
