On Wednesday afternoon, the Glen Waverley Campus hosted the inaugural College Band Day. The Intermediate Bands from each campus met in Cato Hall to workshop their respective repertoires with each other. This was a great opportunity for our students to work together on a common project and share the experience of music-making as a College. Our students certainly enjoyed hosting the students from both the Elsternwick and St Kilda Road campuses.
Music-making continued into Wednesday evening when we held our first ever Year 5 “Three Note Concert” and information session. This classroom concert was an informative celebration that showed parents the significant progress their children have made on their instruments this year. This session also included demonstrations by staff on the best ways to practice specific instruments at home and was a great opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher.
This week we also farewelled Meredith Kolosov. Meredith has been teaching violin and classroom music at the Glen Waverley Campus since 2012 and has been acting Head of Strings this term. We wish her well in her future endeavours.
On Wednesday 27 April, the first day of Term 2, the first of four student groups will leave for Autumn Music Camp, to be held at Arrabri Lodge, East Warburton. Over five days, more than 120 students from Years 5 to 12 will gather to prepare for concerts and competitions throughout Terms 2 and 3.
All students will receive final information about the camp and COVID-safe requirements during the first week of the school holidays.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and am very much looking forward to working with you all again next term.
Geoff Smith, Head of Music School
