Brother Hector was wounded at Pozieres; brother, Arthur, died of illness on return to Australia in 1916; sister, Mable, was a nurse who served in Egypt and Europe.

Service details Killed on the first day of the second battle of Bullecourt. The 22nd Battalion was on the left side of the Australian attack and suffered badly from machine gun fire from enemy positions in the town. Over 400 casualties.
