Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the fourth best-selling book series of all time, and one of our students’ favourite book collections, so excitement was high when the hilarious musical adaptation of the series by author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney was announced as this year’s Middle School production at the Glen Waverley Campus.
Staged in the last week of May, the production featured a talented cast of Middle School performers, imaginative sets, colourful costumes and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. At Saturday’s sold-out closing performance, Cato Hall was filled with laughter as Greg Heffley, played by Tabitha from Cast B, stumbled their way through the challenges and mishaps of middle school life. Audiences were treated to outstanding vocals, energetic performances and memorable one-liners.
As always, the cast demonstrated remarkable dedication, spending months rehearsing to bring the production to life. Reflecting on the experience, Mila from Year 7, who gave a standout performance as Patty Farrel, said ‘Seeing the sets, costumes and everything come together was the best part.’
Beyond the performances themselves, productions provide students with invaluable opportunities to build confidence, develop friendships and create lasting memories. For many, participation in one leads to involvement in many more. Charlotte, from Year 7, can’t wait for more. ‘Every time we finish a scene or song,’ she said, ‘I think about the memory of that moment staying with me forever.’
