Glen Waverley’s Iftaar dinner – held during Ramadan this year, offered a powerful expression of the community we strive to be - one shaped by generous hospitality, deep listening, and genuine belonging.
Hosted by our Muslim students, the evening invited staff, students and families to gather during Ramadan to learn through shared experience rather than explanation alone.
As Senior School students Mosa, Imaad and Malak reflected, Ramadan is far more than fasting from sunrise to sunset. It is a season marked by family, friendship and quiet reflection amid busy lives. Their words set the tone for an evening filled with humility, gratitude and openness.
Readings, prayers and storytelling created space to honour the rhythms of faith that shape our community, before Maghrib prayers marked sunset and the fast was broken with dates.
Year 7 student Yahia beautifully described Ramadan as ‘a wave of prayer and thanksgiving that sweeps across countries,’ a wave he was proud to share with his Wesley community. The shared Afghan banquet that followed embodied this spirit, as people sat together in friendship.
Supported by Campus Chaplain Bradon ‘Chappie’ French, the Iftaar meal was a lived reminder that learning, connection and respect flourish when everyone feels seen, welcomed and included.
