Throughout May, Wesley College proudly celebrated 159 years of history with a series of vibrant Founders’ Day assemblies across all campuses.

These events blended fun, reflection and tradition, bringing the community together to honour the past, celebrate the present and look to the future.

The festivities were filled with joyful moments, from the appearance of Wes the Lion and a giant birthday cake, to music, dance, confetti and a nostalgic fashion show featuring past uniforms, creating a lively atmosphere while paying tribute to the College’s rich heritage.

Beyond the celebration, Founders’ Day offered a moment of reflection. Students paused to consider the College’s humble beginnings and bold ambitions, inspired by the enduring motto: 'Dare to be wise'. This spirit of reflection reminded all that while traditions evolve, Wesley’s core values remain a guiding light.

A highlight was the return of Old Wesley Collegians. At our St Kilda Road Campus, Sharelle McMahon (OW1995), a netball legend and Sport Australia Hall of Fame member, shared her inspiring story of resilience. At the Glen Waverley Campus, comedian and broadcaster Richard Stubbs (OW1975) captivated students with humour and wisdom.

At the Junior School, OW staff members Kate Evans (OW1998), Gareth Briglia (OW1995) and Kerrie Penhall (OW1993) joined a special panel, proudly wearing their purple and gold blazers. Their heartfelt stories highlighted how Wesley’s values extend far beyond the classroom. At the Elsternwick Campus, staff celebrated by wearing blazers from different eras, symbolising the enduring Wesley spirit.

Head of Campus, Jacinta Janssens, tested the students' knowledge of our school's history, with a campus wide quiz, 'Who wants to be a Wesley expert!'

Founders’ Day 2025 was more than a celebration, it was a powerful reminder of the legacy, values and unity that define Wesley College. It inspired all to carry forward this proud tradition with passion and purpose.
