Going for Gold

Congratulations to Jemima Montag (OW2016) who won gold in her Commonwealth Games Race Walk! Jemima crossed the line first after a gruelling 1 hour, 32 minutes and 50 seconds, in just her third 20km walk.

At Wesley, Jemima engaged in College life with passion, energy and commitment. While Jemima’s academic and co-curricular achievements were many, her sporting achievements moved into a league of their own. Having started Little Athletics at age seven, she found she had great endurance and a talent for race walking.

‘I always had many sports going on at once, including soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis, cross country, athletics and 10 years of ballet. It wasn’t until I was 15 that I decided to really dedicate my time to improving my race-walking performances’, says Jemima.

Jemima qualified for the Commonwealth Games team by coming second at the National Championships in February, and will now set her sights on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Wesley community is very proud of her outstanding achievement!
