Students celebrated the occasion with a special performance and presenting their visual perspectives of the construction, before taking parents and special guests on a journey through the new natural outdoor learning environment.
Special features include sensory planting and stone pavers, a stage, a word work area, and a one-of-a-kind tree house. True to Wesley’s commitment to the environment, the playground has several important features that include a recycled water wall, a rain water tank, a worm farm and vegetable plots. Students are hopeful that the latter will attract birds and insects to enhance their studies of the world around them.
Principal, Dr Helen Drennen said, “This special project wouldn’t have been possible without the generous contributions of the Elsternwick community through the voluntary donation program, and with the work proudly undertaken by our own Maintenance staff from across the College – it has been a real team and community effort”.
