The acclaimed Grow Your Mind podcast, which champions social and emotional learning and plays a key role in Wesley College’s wellbeing curriculum, has listeners tuning in from over 140 countries.

Excitingly, in March, five Year 7 students from the Elsternwick Campus - Lucy, Mia, Lucian, Christopher and Yvette, got to share their voices with this global audience in two brand new episodes to launch Series 5:

  • Episode 1 - Invisible Sam (kindness)
  • Episode 2 - Belonging and Inclusion are BFFs.

These episodes explored powerful themes of kindness, inclusion and standing up to racism, encouraging listeners of all ages to be active upstanders in their communities.

Working closely with podcast producer Alice Peel, the students wrote and recorded the episodes on campus, supported by professional sound technicians who ensured a polished, high-quality production.

This experience formed part of their 2024 PYP Exhibition, reflecting the central idea: The information we are given can influence what we think about communities.

Through this project, the students turned learning into meaningful action, using storytelling to promote empathy, inclusion and social justice.

Reflecting on the experience, Mia said, ‘No matter who you are, or where you are, you can be an upstander against racism by calling it out.’

‘It’s important to stand up for what is right in your community,’ added Lucy, highlighting the courage it takes to lead with integrity.
