Chu Family Awards for Excellence in Leadership and Service

Sean Cox, Head of Learning in Residence (LiR), was delighted to host Mr David and Mrs Grace Chu at the annual end-of-year Christmas dinner, which celebrates student talents and achievements and also acts as a farewell celebration for any departing staff.

The evening was filled with musical performances from our boarders, farewell speeches from staff and the personal presentation of the 'Chu Family Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service' by David and Grace to the two LiR recipients.

The 2022 recipients, Forrest Lo (Year 10, from Hong Kong) and Zara Boynton (Year 11, from Bright in regional Victoria), exemplify the leadership and service criteria for the award. They ensured all new students who commenced at LiR during the year felt welcomed and included, were involved in the running of numerous community events within the Residence and the broader Senior School, and were actively engaged in service program initiatives organised as part of the LiR curriculum at weekends.

The College is grateful to David and Grace Chu who presented this prize in gratitude for the education their children received at Wesley College. The family moved from Hong Kong to Melbourne in 1992, undertaking a thorough process to find the most appropriate school for their children, Alexander, Brian and Claire.

Their evaluations, which centred on academic excellence, personal development, pastoral care and resources, extracurricular activities, language training, and co-educational schooling, led them to Wesley’s Glen Waverley Campus where they embraced our ‘total development’ approach to teaching and learning.
