Pride Month

Embracing diversity and fostering inclusion at Wesley

June holds great significance for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies worldwide, making it an extraordinary month of celebration that serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acknowledging the history, language and experiences within this vibrant and diverse community.  At Wesley, we understand that the celebration of Pride extends beyond this month, as we strive to create an open, empathetic and inclusive environment year-round, aligning with our commitment to educating the whole person.

Wesley actively engages in various initiatives to celebrate Pride and create a safe space for LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and the wider community, such as the Midsumma Pride March, fundraising ventures and guest speakers who share their stories and experiences. These events help us build bridges and form connections that extend beyond our immediate community, allowing us to be part of a global movement for equality.

In a proud display of visibility, Wesley flies the Progress flag in many places throughout our campuses, representing our unwavering support for the LGBTQIA+ community and serving as a beacon of acceptance and inclusion for all. This is supported by informative sessions worked into our pastoral and assembly programs across the College, which aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of diverse identities and cultivate a culture of respect, empathy, and acceptance. Our teaching staff work to include LGBTQIA+ representation and stories into their classroom content, as well as gender neutral and inclusive language.

As we embark on this year's Pride Month, let us remember the true essence of this celebration. It is a time to honour the journey of the LGBTQIA+ community, embrace diversity and champion inclusivity. At Wesley, we remain committed to ensuring that our campuses are safe and welcoming spaces for all, where every individual feels respected, valued and celebrated for who they are.

Happy Pride Month!
