Mother Courage and Her Children

'Mother Courage' is considered to be one of the great plays of the twentieth century. Our Glen Waverley cast performed the play over four nights. Read Tiara’s reflection on what she learnt from the Senior School play:

“As an intellectual endeavour, Mother Courage as a piece of literature alone provided a challenge. The complexities of Bertolt Brecht’s playwriting and Epic theatre style was unlike anything I had previously experienced. I received the honour of playing Mother Courage herself; proving to be the most difficult character to play in my entire history of performance. She was neither a protagonist nor an antagonist. At times we sympathised with her, while other times we scorned her for her actions. I believe that I rose to the challenge as best I could. This was my first production as a Performing Arts Prefect and principle of the play. This also had its difficulties. There are so many things that happen behind the scenes that I did not know needed to be considered until I had to do them myself. Through this process I improved my skills in time management, organisation, and leadership. However, this show would not have been the success it was if not for the amazing cast and crew. Their talent and determination constantly inspired me to do the best that I possibly could. So I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Through much time and effort, the cast, crew, and I performed at 110% and I am so proud of what we have achieved together.”
