It has been an action-packed fortnight in the Middle School. After two years of disruptions to planned excursions and incursions due to COVID-19 restrictions, a highlight has been seeing excursions back in action, including the Year 9 Blender Studios street art walking tour excursion and the Year 7 Individuals and Societies liveability data collection excursion.
It has been equally action-packed on campus in recent weeks. Following the preliminary heats for the College-wide ‘Just Dance’ esports competition, we were delighted that 'The Esportz Kids', a team comprising Year 6 students Caitlin Price, Daisy Hall, Matilda Smith and Conor O'Donoghue, attended the St Kilda Road campus on Friday 18 March to compete in the finals round. Conor and Caitlin progressed to the knockout rounds and Caitlin was awarded second place in the finals! These four students bring heart and soul to their dancing and we are very proud of them.
The House Scooterball competition that has been running for the past few weeks during lunchtime has been a huge success, providing a great amount of fun and building House spirit for all involved. Special thanks to our House leaders, Peter McOrist and supervising staff for their support of this competition.
On Friday 11 March, the Middle School community responded to the Ukraine crisis by attending school in blue and yellow to show solidarity with those in Ukraine and Russia. The gold coin donations collected on this day have been donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. Special thanks to our Service Leaders, Nadia Solomon (Year 6) and Courtney Hollis for their work in organising this event. Should you or your family require additional support in light of the ongoing turmoil overseas, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's Homeroom teacher/Tutor or myself.
Finally, on Wednesday 16 March, our campus was filled with wonderful music-making during Music Day. Music Day allows each ensemble to continue honing its repertoire via an intensive workshop. We are very much looking forward to seeing our Middle School music ensembles perform in upcoming school events and assemblies following this wonderful opportunity for collaborative practice. We thank and acknowledge Alexandra Cameron, Alisa Porteous, Laura Quigley and our fabulous IMP and Ensemble staff for their facilitation of Music Day.
